About Waypoint Navigator
A simple, honest navigation instrument for anywhere the path isn't a road.
Why we built it
Most map apps are built for driving: they assume you want turn-by-turn directions along streets. But plenty of journeys don't follow roads. A hiker heading cross-country to a spring, a kayaker crossing open water, a glider pilot lining up on a turn point, or a geocacher closing in on a hidden container all need the same thing — a clear, direct indication of which way the destination is and how far away it is.
Waypoint Navigator was built to do exactly that, and nothing more. It takes the GPS and orientation sensors that are already in your device and presents them as a focused navigation instrument: a compass, a course deviation indicator, distance and speed readouts, and a clean map. No clutter, no ads inside the tool itself, and no account.
Our approach to privacy
We believe a navigation tool should not be a surveillance tool. Waypoint Navigator does not require an account, does not have user profiles, and does not send your location or saved routes to any server. Your waypoints, routes, and settings live in your browser's local storage on your own device. You can export them whenever you want and delete them by clearing the app's data. Read the full privacy policy for specifics.
Web and Android
The web app works in any modern browser with no installation. If you prefer a native experience on your phone, the same tool is available as an Android app on Google Play.
How the project is funded
Waypoint Navigator is free. The informational pages of this website carry advertising, which helps cover hosting and ongoing development. The navigation tool itself is kept free of advertising so that it stays fast and distraction-free when you are actually out in the field.
